The Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) department at Methodist College of Engineering and Technology is a visionary and rapidly evolving academic unit dedicated to shaping students into architects of the intelligent future. Launched in 2024–25 with an inspiring intake of 180 students, the program boldly addresses the surging demand for AI-driven professionals.
The curriculum builds a strong foundation in core computing while immersing students in emerging technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Generative AI, Agentic AI, Computer Vision, Cybersecurity, IoT, and Robotics. Following an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework, learning blends conceptual clarity, hands-on implementation, and continuous assessment.
Passionate faculty members with academic and industry wisdom guide students through modern laboratories, cutting-edge computing resources, and project-based learning that fosters fearless problem-solving. Beyond academics, the department promotes holistic growth through workshops, certifications, mentorship, and cultural events.

Our infrastructure for AI is of top notch, and all labs are equipped with advanced computers, high speed LAN, Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the campus, etc. This helps our students to concentrate better on the studies.

The department actively promotes professional engagement and industry collaboration through student chapters and partnerships with leading bodies such as Computer Society of India (CSI) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and CISCO-Train the Trainer Program. The department also collaborates with TASK for training students in different domains. Innovation and entrepreneurial thinking are further encouraged through initiatives like WE HUB and skill development programs supported by ICT Academy.
Under ICT Academy, the department regularly organizes value-added programs such as the Cyient Entrepreneurship Development Program, Infosys Foundation UI Developer Program, Learnathon, IBM SkillsBuild AI Certification, Celonis Certification Program, and ServiceNow AI Fundamentals.
These initiatives provide students with practical exposure, industry-relevant skills, and certification opportunities that enhance their employability.
To further strengthen industry readiness, the department collaborates with platforms such as Microsoft Center of Excellence, Eduskills, Google Developer Groups, and Google Cloud. Through these collaborations, students gain access to hands-on workshops, internships, hackathons, certifications, and real-world project experience, helping them stay aligned with current industry trends and emerging technologies.
Dr. M. Sharada Varalakshmi is a dynamic academician in Computer Science and Engineering, recognized for her excellence in teaching, research, and institutional leadership. She earned her Ph.D(CSE) from JNTUH, Hyderabad, complemented by an M.Tech in Software Engineering and a B.Tech in CSE, laying a robust foundation for her impactful career.
With extensive experience, she has significantly contributed to curriculum design, NBA and NAAC accreditation, ISO processes, and IQAC initiatives. She has led international conferences on Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies, along with numerous workshops and faculty development programs. Her research portfolio includes publications in reputed Scopus-indexed journals and secured patents in AI-based emotion recognition, humanoid robotics, and energy-efficient systems. Her work on deep neural networks supported by a TEQIP-III research grant.
An active member of IEEE, ISTE, and CSI, Dr. Sharada remains at the forefront of technological advancements. As a passionate educator and mentor, she inspires students and colleagues toward innovation, excellence, and lifelong learning, embodying a true blend of scholarly rigor and visionary leadership.
